Mikaela Shiffrin could do what he still lacks in the 2020 calendar year: a World Cup slalom victory. The American is in the lead after the first round of the race at Semmering, but only with a minimal lead of 0.02 seconds. In second place is the Swiss Michelle Gisin, who can currently compete for victory in all disciplines. The third place is the Austrian Katharina Liensberger. At 0.32 seconds, he also has realistic prospects for his first World Cup victory.
Four Austrians made it to the top 10. In addition to Liensberger, Katharina Truppe (4th), Franziska Gritsch (7th) and Chiara Mair (10th) were also very promising. Katharina Gallhuber (12th) and Katharina Huber (20th) round out the excellent team performance of the ÖSV women in the home race, the last in 2020.
Wendy Holdener, who is fifth, 0.69 seconds behind, also has a chance to get on the podium. It is followed by Petra Vlhova, for whom the first round did not go according to her ideas. The winner of the last five slalom is well behind by 0.89 seconds. Melanie Meillard (25th) qualified for the final as the third Swiss woman alongside Gisin and Holdener.
The second round in Semmering starts at 6.30 pm
