A road accident involving two participating cars and a truck on the western highway near Laakirchen (Gmunden district) ended fatally on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the western motorway in the direction of Salzburg shortly before the Laakirchen Ost motorway exit at the Lindach service station. Based on initial information, there was apparently a collision between the two cars beforehand. An occupant of one of the accidental vehicles was struck by the truck and fatally injured. The fire department was alerted to a person trapped under a truck. Whether the fatally injured person was thrown from the car or got out after the accident and was then hit by the truck remains the subject of police investigations. Another person was slightly injured in the accident and, after initial treatment by the helicopter emergency medical team, Martin 3 was transferred to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck. The fire brigade supported the rescue measures and carried out the cleaning works together with the towing company.
The western highway was closed for about two and a half hours in the direction of Salzburg. Traffic was diverted through the rest stop. A backwater several kilometers long formed in front of the crash site.
