The weather was a party pooper! The women’s giant slalom at the Semmering Alpine Skiing World Cup was canceled on Monday after the first half. Strong gusts of wind made holding the second round impossible. The start time has been delayed twice from the original 1:00 pm, and the start area has also moved further down. OC boss Franz Steiner and his colleagues tried everything. However, conditions did not improve, so those responsible finally decided to cancel.
Huber missed the second round
After the first lap, the Slovak Petra Vlhova would have been in the lead. The overall World Cup leader was 0.22 seconds ahead of Italy’s Marta Bassino. Third was Michelle Gisin from Switzerland, 0.35 seconds behind Vlhova. The best Austrians were defeated. Katharina Huber from St. Georgen clearly missed qualifying for the second round with more than four seconds behind (47th place).
It was not yet clear if the race would be held again. The illuminated slalom is scheduled to take place on Tuesday according to the regular schedule.
