“Just symbolism”: Carinthia doesn’t start vaccinating until January

Controversy. In eight federal states, including Burgenland, more or less symbolic Covid vaccines began on Sunday. But not in Carinthia: the state government emphasized in a transmission that it had been deliberately decided against the initial symbolic vaccination proposed by the federal government, since only “five to ten doses of vaccination” were available for the start of vaccination on Sunday.

The spokesman for the governor of Carinthia, Peter Kaiser, told KURIER that the state vaccination commission had spoken out against starting vaccination this Sunday because it was foreseeable at the December 22 meeting that only a few doses of vaccine had been sent to the southernmost state it would be.

However, there was a videoconference at the invitation of the Federal Chancellery a day later: a spokesman for Chancellor Kurz confirmed that each federal state had been promised “up to 975 doses of vaccination.”

On Sunday it could not be determined how many doses of vaccine were actually brought to Carinthia by army helicopters. However, the state government insisted that the KURIER would not vaccinate the population against the corona virus until January 5.
