Possible knee injury stops Nils Alphand – Kjetil Jansrud will probably manage without relegation from Bormio
Bormio – French ski racer Nils Alphand fell during today’s downhill training in Bormio. His right knee was injured. The Equipe Tricolore member will return home for a medical examination. His teammate Brice Roger ended up in the safety net and broke a tooth. He will participate in the races of the Ski World Cup at the Stelvio.
For Alphand once again: it appears that the collateral ligament has been injured. Hopefully the horror is greater than the wound itself. The diagnosis is still pending. Participation in the two speed races in Bormio that are scheduled for the next few days is out of the question.
World downhill champion Kjetil Jansrud, who was unable to make his first downhill training session on Saturday, will likely cope without a start in Bormio. The Norwegian has been selected for the second training session with the starting number 17, but will probably not contest it. According to the FIS regulations, he would not have the right to start on Tuesday for the Stelvio descent. Jansrund has complained of general discomfort. It is not yet clear if the Viking will tackle the Super-G through the program change.
