Israeli warplanes attacked Hamas Islamist positions in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night. The Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) announced in the morning on Twitter that they had fired on a rocket production facility, underground structures and a military base, among other things. This was preceded by rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip on targets around southern Israel.

Hours earlier, the Israeli army had reported on the rocket attacks on Christmas Day. “As families from all over the world are sitting around their Christmas trees, families from southern Israel run towards bomb shelters,” the IDF Twitter read. Two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.

In late August, Hamas, following Qatari mediation, announced a ceasefire with Israel. But then there were already several rapes. In 2007, Israel tightened the blockade of the Gaza Strip, which is now supported by Egypt. Both countries justify the measure with security considerations. Around two million people live in very poor conditions on the Mediterranean coast. The Islamist Hamas is classified as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States and the EU.
