Champion Red Bull Salzburg reported the doping cases of two team players. During a doping test carried out by UEFA, the two players Sekou Koita and Mohamed Camara gave a positive A sample, the club announced on Tuesday. The test took place a few days after his return from Mali, it was also said. It is said to be a remedy for altitude sickness.
Camara and Koita dated the Mali national team in November. The team traveled from Bamako (350 meters high) to Windhoek in Namibia, which is around 1,700 meters high, for the Africa Cup qualifying match. On November 22, the UEFA inspection came to a positive result. A total of ten people from Salzburg were tested.
“In Camara and Koita, traces of an active ingredient that is an essential component of an altitude sickness drug were found, which the Malian team of medical supervisors said was given to them before the away game in Namibia,” said the transmission.
Cooperation with UEFA and the authorities
The club will do its best in cooperation with UEFA and the authorities to obtain full clarification of the events in Mali. “Mohamed Camara and Sekou Koita will participate in spring training and receive full support from FC Red Bull Salzburg to clarify this cause.”
Salzburg Managing Director Stephan Reiter said: “We are very proud when our players are called up for their respective national teams. But especially with an international match, it can and should be expected that medical care meets international standards and that doctors are familiar with the applicable rules. “
