In the first season of the Alta Badia Slalom Ski World Cup (ITA), two ÖSV athletes were able to get on the podium. When the Swiss won Ramon Zenhäusern has been Manuel Feller Second and Black Frame took third place.
The first slalom of the season in Alta Badia took place unusually late on Monday. After a long preparation, the team of coach Marko Pfeifer entered the first race with great expectations. With two podiums and six athletes in the points, the conclusion is always positive.
Manuel Feller, who failed to score in his previous three World Cup races this year, showed a good first round performance and was 13th in hopes of a spot in the top 10. The Tyrolean managed the second batch to perfection and with the second fastest race time the 28-year-old catapulted himself to the podium. Second place (+0.08 seconds) marks the fifth podium in his career for Feller, who struggled with a herniated disc last season.
Manuel Feller: “It’s incredible how fast everything can turn. During practice I already felt that the slalom is going very well, but after last season and now three races without points, you start with little confidence in yourself. The first lap already went well and in the second I managed to do an almost perfect race. This is probably the most emotional moment of my career. “
With Marco Schwarz in third place, another Austrian took the podium. After the first race, the Carinthian were 0.81 seconds behind halftime leader Alex Vinatzer (ITA) in 10th place. Thanks to an impeccable race in the second race, the 25-year-old managed to improve seven places and thus get on the podium (+0.12 seconds).
Marco Schwarz: “Unfortunately, the first race did not go well, especially at the top. In the second I attacked well and now being on the podium with Manu is great. “
Halfway through the race I lay Michael Matt third, and thus had the most promising opportunities from the Austrian point of view. The Tyrolean could not match the performance in the second race and fell back to 15th place (+0.96 seconds) with a race in poor condition. Right before Matt was Adrian pertl 14th (+0.90 seconds), third best Austrian.
Fabio Gstrein ranked 21 (+1.20 seconds) and Christian hirschbühl he landed directly behind in 22nd place (+1.33 seconds).
