Alex Vinatzer, a 21-year-old South Tyrolean, leads midway through the first slalom of the World Cup season in Alta Badia. Behind the Italian were the Swiss Daniel Yule (+0.27) and Michael Matt of Austria (+0.36) in the first round. Slalom World Cup winner Henrik Kristoffersen lurks in fifth place, 0.40 seconds behind. Clément Noël of France missed qualifying for the decision after a serious mistake.

The fight for the first slalom podium of the season is hard to beat in terms of tension. The first twelve runners are within a second. The second best Austrian is Marco Schwarz in tenth place (+0.81). With Manuel Feller (13th), Fabio Gstrein (14th), Adrian Pertl (20th) and Christian Hirschbühl (24th), four other riders from the ÖSV qualify for the second round at Alta Badia.
