Due to the continued high number of infections in a district of Carinthia, people must now also wear a mask outdoors.
The coronavirus is still spreading in Austria. The number of new infections dropped on the last Sunday of Advent, but the ministry recently reported a dramatic number of deaths. 142 people died in just one day as a result of a corona infection.
The Hermagor district in Carinthia is currently one of the largest corona hot spots in Austria. The district authority has now taken action due to the high number of cases and imposed a visible mask requirement. From December 21 to January 3, a mask must be worn in various places.

From now on, only the following areas will be accessible with a mask: 10th of October Street, Wulfeniaplatz, Gasserplatz and the main street area between Gasserplatz and Kärntner Sparkasse. In Kötschach-Mauthen, the mask requirement applies in area B110 between Schuhhaus Sorger and the Kötschach parish church.
“The other districts have not yet developed an ordinance for the requirement of masks in public places,” explains state spokesman Gerd Kurath to the “Kronen Zeitung”. In terms of new infections, Carinthia ranks second in terms of 100,000 inhabitants in an average of 7 days.
