Ski jumping: Granerud has already achieved the fifth victory of the season in Engelberg

He won the first of two World Cup ski competitions in Engelberg, the Four Hills Tournament dress rehearsal on December 28, 2.2 points ahead of Pole Kamil Stoch. The best Austrian in the absence of the still ailing World Cup winner Stefan Kraft was Daniel Huber in twelfth place.

Michael Hayböck, fourth in the World Cup for skiers, was only 16. Points for the ÖSV also went to Thomas Lackner (26th), Philipp Aschenwald (29th) and Gregor Schlierenzauer (30th). Of the six Austrians qualified, only Manuel Fettner failed to reach the final of the top 30 in 36th place.

Daniel Huber nearly jumped into the top ten from 23rd place, only 2.7 points short of world ninth in twelfth place. “The second (jump) has gone back to how I imagine, although it was not easy due to the conditions,” he explained after a 129.5m set. It only takes two good jumps to get ahead. “There was a brutal tailwind and it blew me away,” Huber said of the somewhat failed 121-meter jump in the first.

After finishing fourth in Planica in the World Ski Flying Championships, Michael Hayböck traveled to Engelberg with a lot of self-confidence. But the change from the giant hill in Slovenia to the big hill in Switzerland has so far been difficult for him. “In very difficult conditions with an extremely high amount of tailwind over the stern, I have not been successful yet. I still miss the feeling a little bit, but I am not far away,” explained Upper Austria. In the test he did very well with 137.5 meters, in the competition later with 119.5 / 132 m not as expected.

For only the third time in Engelberg, no Austrian has made it to the top ten, a circumstance that should change again on Sunday (4:00 pm / ORF1 live), at the Four Hills Tournament dress rehearsal that begins December 28.

The road to victory currently runs through the shooting star Halvor Egner Granerud. The Norwegian has now won en suite for the fourth time and for the fifth time this season. With 500 points, after six competitions, he is clearly in the lead with 217 points over German Markus Eisenbichler, who finished fourth on Saturday. His compatriot Robert Johansson, who was third overall, was one of the “wind victims” in the first round, after a jump of 104 meters he was 44º without points.
