Despite Franz-Josef Rehrl’s heavy crash the day before, there was good news from the ÖSV camp on Saturday in the first of two Nordic Combined World Cup competitions in Ramsau. Lukas Greiderer and Johannes Lamparter finished third and fourth after an excellent race. Greiderer was only 1.3 seconds behind the winner Vinzenz Geiger. The German won just 0.5 seconds ahead of World Cup leader Jarl Magnus Riiber.

After the intermediate positions three (Lamparter) and six (Greiderer) after the jump, the two Tyrolese had a decisive influence on the 10 km of route. In the end, Greiderer would still have a chance of victory, Lamparter was 7.7 seconds behind Geiger at the end.

“It was incredibly difficult. I’m super happy with the podium today, I’m very good to have been able to reach third place there,” said Greiderer happily. He felt great and thanked the serving staff for the “great job.”

“Ramsau is always good for me: I knew something was going on up the hill. I made a really good jump today. The race was also mega. It was mega-tough until we got to Jo (Lamparter).” He has decided to stick with the violinist who started four seconds before him, which he did well. On the third lap, Fabian Rießle entered the leading group. But when the German knocked down, it was just a quartet with two Austrians and the ÖSV was almost certain to be on the podium.

“The first two laps were very tough, so Vinzi (Geiger) went straight to the top so we could get there,” Greiderer said of the course of the race. Lap four was then a “really brutal race”.

Lamparter: “I’m very happy, it was a really great race”

And Greiderer definitely saw the opportunity for more. “I probably thought so. Before the race, whoever told me it’s been ten years since the last Austrian won here. I said to myself, we won’t let it be an eleventh year, let’s see tomorrow we have another race,” Greiderer was already watching Sunday’s competition (11am / 3.15pm, ORF 1 live).

Despite the lost podium, Lamparter was also satisfied. Not surprising: after ranks two, six, four and four, the ÖSV’s young high hopes are in second place in the overall World Cup behind Riiber, just 60 points behind the Norwegian defending champion.

“I’m very happy, it was a really great race. On the fourth lap I tried to do it from the front. I did quite well, but the three up front were just faster. It fits me perfectly for Luki” , we train a lot together, “Lamparter said.

As in the previous year, Geiger stayed ahead of the serial winner Riiber. “It was the hardest thing for me to achieve a jump like that on the hill. In the race I made sure to run my pace,” Geiger said in an interview with ORF. “It worked in the final sprint, it worked perfectly.”
