Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 loss to Union Berlin on Matchday 13 of the Bundesliga is furious.
BVB surprised “Iron” especially in standard situations, which resulted in the two goals from the Berliners. Much to the chagrin of Mats Hummels.
“We lost two games in the Bundesliga against standards, that’s a catastrophe,” complains the BVB star on DAZN, referring to the 1: 2 against Cologne at the end of November. “We just got in the pan, that shouldn’t be allowed.”
First Taiwo Awoniyi scored the opening goal for Union (57th) after a well-kicked corner by Christopher Trimmel, but only three minutes later BVB youngster Youssoufa Moukoko scores to equalize and with him his first goal in the Bundesliga (60th ) -Year he became the youngest scorer in the history of the Bundesliga. Marvin Friedrich headed an almost uncapped corner to make it 2-1 (78th).
“With a clear man assignment, the opponent’s strongest header is ten meters free. I can’t understand how that can happen,” Hummels said, taking responsibility for his teammates. “We can’t make it that easy for our opponents and we can’t give them goals that easily because then you lose too often in the Bundesliga. That also has something to do with how much you want to win when you play a match again. Via standards.”
BVB coach Edin Terzic had warned his team about the standard strength of the Berliners before the match. “Unión now has eight goals by the standards, all based on a similar principle. We mentioned it explicitly again, on different channels. We also agreed that the best way to uphold the standards is not to allow them.”
For Dortmund it was the fifth defeat of the season in the second game with Terzic.
