An industry meeting takes place in March and the public festival in June.
The Berlinale will not take place as planned in February 2021 due to Corona. Instead, there will be a digital industry meeting in March, and a festival with film screenings in front of an audience is not planned until June. The current selection of films for the competition and sections will continue. The show will be released in February and will be presented to the film industry in the virtual film market in March. The prizes could be awarded in the summer.
There is a great need for physical opportunities for encounters, admits CEO Mariette Rissenbeek. “But the current situation does not allow it in February.”
The Berlinale is the most popular film festival in the world. This year around 330,000 tickets were sold. The Berlin film festival in early 2020 was one of the last major events that was still held in the usual way.
