Stefan Kraft missed the dress rehearsal for the Swiss tour, his back keeps pinching. World ski flying champion Karl Geiger is also missing: the young German father tested positive for the crown.
No dress rehearsal for the Four Hills Tournament for Stefan Kraft: Last season’s World Cup winner will not be in the two singles competitions in Engelberg, Switzerland, over the weekend. The Salzburg resident would like to cure his back pain, which recently forced him to skip the World Ski Flight Championships in Planica, until the Four Hills Tournament, which starts on December 28.
Kraft may very well not decide whether to perform until the Christmas holidays. Kraft has been out of action since a corona infection just after the start of the World Cup in Wisla. In his only World Cup appearance thus far, Kraft had not scored any World Cup points, but had been part of the winning team in the tag team competition.
Austrian ski jumpers compete in Engelberg (Friday, qualifying at 6:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 p.m., individual competitions) with Philipp Aschenwald, Manuel Fettner, Michael Hayböck, fourth in the Championship of the Ski Flight World, Daniel Huber, Thomas Lackner and Gregor Schlierenzauer.
Karl Geiger also has to look
World ski flying champion Karl Geiger has tested positive for the corona virus. The 27-year-old German will miss the Ski Jumping World Cup in Engelberg at the weekend. It is not yet clear if he will be able to participate in the Four Hills Tournament, which begins on December 28 with qualifying in his hometown of Oberstdorf. “I’m fine, I have no symptoms,” Geiger said in a statement from the German Ski Association on Thursday.
“I am now in quarantine and will do periodic tests.” The Allgäuer had become world ski-flight champion in Planica last Saturday and won the silver medal with the team the next day. The tests of the other members of the ski jumping team were negative. Therefore, the team wants to participate in the competitions in Switzerland this weekend.
