The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is due to issue approval for Covid vaccines next Monday. Vaccination should start in Lower Austria in a few days. It will begin, as the governor announced, on December 28. Initially, up to 4,500 doses of vaccine will be inoculated in the state health agency nursing and care centers, private nursing homes and clinics. The new vaccination campaign will begin throughout the country in mid-January.

For Governor Johanna-Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), this is “very good news” a few days before Christmas: “Now we have to make sure that the distribution works correctly. In general, I think it is advisable to protect yourself with a vaccine. But with a particular new vaccine, you have to rely on voluntariness. I am also convinced that the willingness to get vaccinated increases over time, “says Mikl-Leitner, who emphasizes that she will definitely get vaccinated.

For his deputy, Stephan Pernkopf (ÖVP), the Covid vaccine is “one, if not the most important component” in the fight against the corona epidemic. Explain that the country wants to proceed according to a clear and coordinated phased plan.

Health Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig explains the beginning in clinics and care centers saying that people and employees who are particularly worthy of protection will be vaccinated first. But make it clear that the change has yet to be made. “It is also very important that we respect distance and hygiene measures to minimize the risk of infection and it is essential that we convince as many people as possible to participate in antigen testing in early January. At the same time, preparations for vaccines are at their peak, ”said Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ).
