“The mobility concept for the new LASK stadium should be on the table immediately”

LINZ. Traffic is a major concern for residents of the planned new stadium building in the Gugl. Apparently, the city has a corresponding mobility concept: the content is not yet known. The Linz Greens demand transparency.

“Therefore, the concept must be brought to the table immediately and a broad discussion with the participation of residents is possible,” demands Helge Langer, president of the Green Linz club.

If the schedules are met, the start of the first game at the new Gugl Stadium will take place in the summer of 2022. If LASK continues to play as successfully as it is now and if the corona pandemic is under control, surely more spectators will see the games in the new home than in previous years. This will also have an impact on traffic in the direction of Froschberg or in the city center after the game.

Expand public transport on match days

“To protect residents from a significant increase in traffic and increased parking pressure, public transportation needs to be expanded significantly on game days,” says Langer in favor of a shuttle service from downtown parking lots to the stadium and vice versa. “The goal should be for as few spectators as possible to drive their own car to the Gugl to avoid traffic jams and chaos in the parking lot,” emphasizes Langer.

For a solution to be found in the interest of the residents, a comprehensive mobility concept is required by the city, which, according to a statement from the traffic officer, has already been completed. “If that is the case, it is time to present the plans as soon as possible to both a municipal committee and the public to allow a debate and examine any suggestions for improvement,” said the president of the Green Club.
