Ski ace Schmidhofer on the aftermath of Covid: “Like a concussion”

The aftermath of Corona is worrying Austrian ski ladies even before the delayed speed start in Val d’Isere this weekend. Nicole Schmidhofer reported occasional headaches Thursday night. “It’s almost like having a concussion, that the snow or the sun blinds me a lot. It’s uncomfortable, but I’m going skiing. I hope this week is calm.”

The headache “came and went” with the problem: “If you have a headache and take an aspirin, it usually helps, but not with a corona headache.” Also due to the fallout from Covid, it was easier for Schmidhofer to overcome the fact that the stress of racing for speed aces didn’t start until mid-December. “We knew we had to be very flexible this winter.”

Regardless of this, after just two podium spots in the preseason, Schmidhofer wants to “ski better than last year” and, according to her motto, “keep going,” as the 31-year-old noted. “If possible, the top five should always be vigilant.”
