FC Red Bull Salzburg completes the field of participants for the ÖFB Cup quarter-finals. The Bulls celebrated a secure 6-2 home win against SK Rapid Wien at home. Szoboszlai (16th), M. Berisha (19th), Koita (23rd), Daka (74th), Camara (83rd / penalty) and Kristensen (87th) scored for Salzburg. Fountas (45th + 1) and Ullmann (79th) scored Rapid’s two hits. For the Hütteldorfer it was the fourth consecutive defeat in the cup against the bulls.
Rapid held out for 15 minutes, but then came the Salzburg assault
After a minute’s silence for the recently deceased Otto Baric and Gerard Houllier, referee Walter Altmann whistled the blow from the cup. And the Hütteldorfer held up well for a quarter of an hour, acted vigorously and attacked Salzburg from the start. In the 16th minute, the first well-presented attack by the hosts quickly put it 1-0. Mergim Berisha and Dominik Szoboszlai combined very well through a short pass game to the penalty area, before the Hungarian kept quiet in front of Gartler and glorified him – 1-0 (16th).
Just three minutes later, the Verdiblancos conceded another goal according to a standard: Szoboszlai with the high flank of free kick to the penalty area, where Koita approached the ball in front of Gartler and crossed it. Mergim Berisha was right and only had to dust off – 2-0 (19th). Salzburg were now in a veritable scoring frenzy: shortly after, Berisha leveraged the entire fast defense with a direct pass, so Koita Gartler turned around. The Malian let an opponent run into space and fired the game device at the half-empty goal: 3: 0 (23). Only shortly after, the Bulls reportedly made it 4-0, but Junuzovic’s goal did not count for an offside decision (25th).
Of the initial aggressiveness of the Viennese you could not see anything. Rather, the League Primus controlled the game in all respects. In the 29th minute it was Kristensen, whose volley from the edge of the penalty area whistled over the goal. As a result, the Salzburg men fell back a bit, so the Viennese got back into the game. Shortly before the break, Fountas refueled from the left into the penalty area, Kristensen was quick to follow and could only stop the agile Greek with a free kick. Fountas took responsibility and scored with a low and low shot to make it 1: 3 from the Viennese perspective.
In the end it will be very bitter for Rapid
Dominik Szoboszlai caused the first discomfort after the break when he crashed off the crossbar with a free kick from 17 meters (50º). Otherwise, not much happened in the early stages of the second half, as the game turned out to be messy due to many fouls and interruptions. The next round came again from the bulls: Mohamed Camara served from a good 25 meters, but Gartler was on point when Malier’s shot was unpleasant and he made a strong save (61).
Visitors to Vienna rarely had a chance: in the 66th minute Knasmüllner had a chance to head the ball after a cross from Fountas, but the 28-year-old couldn’t get to the ball. Substitute Patson Daka cleared all doubts: the Zambian made the 4: 1 from an acute angle with a precise shot (74º). Five minutes later, Maximilian Ullmann impressed with a wonderful long-range shot, in which Stankovic had no chance: 4: 2 (79th).
In the final phase, however, it was really bitter for Rapid: First, Hofmann was sent off the pitch after a foul. Mohamed Camara converted the penalty, which should not have been given because the foul had been committed outside the penalty area – 5-2 (83rd). Ramus Kristensen achieved the final score 6: 2, with great force from close range (87).
