After the successful group stage in the European League and promotion to the 16th final, where Tottenham Hotspurs are known to be waiting, RZ Pellets WAC received the second division SKU Ertl Glas Amstetten in the round of 16 of the Cup. ÖFB. Of course, Ferdinand Feldhofer’s team wanted to advance to the next round of the ÖFB Cup, but Amstetten’s guests were not underestimated. On the other hand, Joachim Standfest, a former WAC player, led the rivals and knew very well the strengths and weaknesses of the Carinthians. After an early lead, the home team finally prevailed 2-0 and made it to the quarter-finals without issue. Referee Sebastian Gishamer was supported by Roland Riedel and Jasmin Sabanovic Jasmin on the flanks.
WAC beat Amstetten and go safely to the Cup quarterfinals
The locals showed who the boss is from the start and went ahead 1-0 in the 8th minute. The first action from the Carinthians led directly to the door. Sven Sprangler lifted the ball worth watching from Dominik Baumgartner and the forward central defender did so with his head. The guests’ defensive tactics did not work, due to the initial advantage, now they were forced to open the game more and act more offensively. The hosts had the following option. After a great passing game, Wernitznig played a running pass to Sven Sprangler. He tried from the edge of sixteen. Amstetten goalkeeper David Affengruber had no problem with it. Those in Lower Austria were getting stronger now, but they couldn’t turn their playful superiority into a noteworthy opportunity. Once again it was the turn of the WAC, after a free-throw bomb from Christopher Wernitznig, David Affengruber stood out again, the score remained unchanged. With the 1-0 break, the referee took the protagonists to the locker room.
The second half was stingy with highlights, both teams had no teeth, only at the end it became exciting
After the restart, once in the first twenty minutes of the second lap absolutely nothing happened on the field. A yellow card for Guram Giorbelidze following a foul and substitution by both teams was the only result of significant action at this stage. From minute 70, however, both teams tried to make up for what was previously lost. At first Amstetten failed due to his own incapacity (70th), then the WAC also found itself in the opposite penalty area, but this opportunity also remained without an accounting conclusion. Shortly before the end of the game, Matthäus Taferner, who had just been substituted, could have scored a goal. After a short tee shot from rival goalkeeper Affengruber, he came out on his feet from about forty feet into the shot, but held 0-0. In the finals it was very hot again, in the 92nd minute Amstettner’s David Peham had the best chance of this game, but his shot went wide of the goal. In return, WAC captain Michael Liendl made it 2-0 and fixed the final score in the last minute with a wonderful set-up, which also meant promotion for RZ Pellets WAC.

Voices for the game:
Ferdinand Feldhofer, WAC coach:
“We played zero and the end result was that we scored the goal. Today we did not play as efficiently, but I have to protect the team. We had the third game in six days and our tension in the last three months does not exactly provide freshness.”
Peter Zeitlhofer, Assistant Coach Amstetten:
“We would have found enough opportunities to win the game. Our opponents took the lead because of carelessness on our part. We are disappointed by the elimination, it would have been further inside.”
