Whether vaccination will end political chaos remains to be seen
Vienna (OTS) – “In view of the complete failure of responsible politicians across Europe, they believe they have found a panacea in COVID vaccination,” Free European MP Roman Haider said in light of today’s debate on an EU vaccination strategy for COVID- 19. The year 2020 has relentlessly exposed the inability of most politicians in Europe to sensibly meet this challenge. Instead of working on a long-term strategy, many politicians, especially in Austria, have sought their salvation in an authoritarian political style. “Reducing basic civil rights and freedoms is sadly already a good way in Europe,” Haider said. Therefore, it is not surprising that the call for mandatory vaccination is strong from the corner of authoritarian political failure. “A vaccine is an intervention in your own body. Everyone has to be able to use their body autonomously. Therefore, a mandatory vaccination must be strictly rejected, ”says Haider. Furthermore, the example of Austria clearly shows that an authoritarian political style in relation to the rhetoric of fear is by no means a way out of the crisis.
“It remains to be seen if vaccination will end this political chaos,” Haider said. Vaccines are a unique medical success story; Unfortunately, expectations for vaccines have been too high lately. “There is only partial protection against influenza and there is still no vaccination against AIDS. That is why it is grossly negligent to rely solely on vaccination as a panacea, ”Haider said. With this “close your eyes and pass” strategy, the protection of vulnerable groups was completely neglected and the economic damage was maximized.
“When the health crisis comes to an end, the economic crisis will only begin. Then we will be allowed to clean up the debris that a completely overwhelmed political force has left across Europe,” Haider stressed.
