A Styrian riding instructor who was charged with four rapes was sentenced to five and a half years in prison at the Graz regional criminal court on Tuesday night. The 56-year-old man is said to have sexually abused a total of nine women. Most of the victims were between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The 56-year-old man was already involved in criminal proceedings in 2013 for similar crimes, but was never charged, as some of the cases were prescribed by law. The new accusations, however, were topical and were made by various women in a similar fashion. “He first built a trusting relationship and then took the girls away,” said prosecutor Benedikt Petzner. Under the pretext of “wanting to correct the sitting position,” the accused groped the girls who were sitting on the horse, some of whom he also abused in the saddle room. sexually. A 30-year-old initially defended himself from their attacks. With the words “Then we left him,” he apparently stopped attempts to kiss and assault her, however, only to force her into an adjoining room and rape her, as the prosecutor said.

Defense attorney Bernhard Lehofer emphasized that his client “was not so blind as to say that everyone conspired against him.” The accused himself was contrite: “That was silly, crazy.” However, at times he had received something like a “sign”. For example, a young woman admired her horse, then “she turned around and laid her head on my shoulder, I hugged her and kissed her,” she said. The representation of the woman sounded a little different: she described him grabbing her lower jaw and kissing her hard.

The defendant asked for time to think about it, the prosecutor gave no explanations. The judgment is not final.
