Styrian, 51, fired a shotgun from his closed living room window Monday night. He did not see the police for a few meters, but the officers withdrew and alerted Task Force Cobra. The special unit arrested the suspect. He said that he had suffered from mental illness for a long time. He was taken to Graz-Jakomini Prison, police said Tuesday.

The man from Empersdorf (Leibnitz district) had apparently seen a person loitering around his house on Monday night. So he asked his 16-year-old daughter to call the police. The teenager did that too, but when officers arrived and were about to enter the property, the 51-year-old man suddenly fired the shotgun out the window. He had legally owned it.

After the patrol pulled out, the same suspect called the ambulance and said he had just shot someone in front of his home. In fact, he missed the officers. The quirk came a little later and stopped the man. He told investigators that he did not want to hurt or kill anyone, but that he was sick.
