Chancellor Angela Markel now announces a tough lockdown for Germany from Wednesday!

Due to the persistently high crown numbers, a strict lockdown could be applied in Germany no later than Wednesday. The first details of the proposal have already been leaked, which will be put to a vote at the Prime Minister’s Conference on Sunday. Retail will be largely closed from December 16 to January 10. The sale of New Year’s Eve fireworks will be prohibited, as will the public consumption of alcohol.

Sedan. In view of the spread of the corona pandemic, public life in Germany will be drastically closed as of next Wednesday. Retail, with the exception of stores for daily necessities, must close. Chancellor Angela Merkel announced this on Sunday after consultations with the prime minister.

The partial blockade that has been in force since the beginning of November “was not enough,” said the head of government in Berlin. The tightening of the measures affects the holidays. But: “We are obliged to act and we are acting now.”

The exponential growth of new corona infections could stall for a while, Merkel said. But then there was a “lateral movement”, and for a few days there has been exponential growth again.

In view of the spread of the corona pandemic, a national ban on attendance and gatherings in Germany will apply on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve. Also, the sale of fireworks before New Year’s Eve is generally prohibited.
Germany: lost the lead of the first wave
For a long time, neighboring Germany fared better than Austria in terms of new corona infections, but while our country entered a hard lockdown and came back after a partial lockdown, the Germans tried a breakwater tactic. But this did not have the necessary effect. The number of new corona cases has skyrocketed for days (a new record was set on Friday with 29,875 new infections) with 598 deaths. “First wave leadership is lost,” writes the “Spiegel” in his cover story.
