Innsbruck – On Thursday evening there was a lot of talk at the Innsbruck fair. Four hours of debate surrounding the vote against Uschi Schwarzl (Greens) as deputy mayor did not change anything in the expected voting behavior. Schwarzl is again nominated by the Greens in the city senate. Yesterday all parties were “ready to talk.” But the coalition didn’t want to say much more.
Mayor Georg Willi’s turn. He also invited a conversation yesterday. That will likely take place next Tuesday before the next hot spots (item orders) are due in the city senate on Wednesday. Now it’s “important that we take the pressure off first,” Willi said. He wanted to speak to the coalition partners about “how can we continue to work for Innsbruck”. All on the basis of the coalition agreement. Willi wants “calm to return now.”
Is there still a break in the coalition or new elections in the room for him? Willi says, “No, not for me.” True to the motto “New year, new luck”. That had sounded a little different at the city council meeting.
Not seen as a coalition break
The other groups also tried to calm down yesterday. The ÖVP, FI and SPÖ did not see the removal of Uschi Schwarzl as a break from the coalition. Consequently, the aforementioned “willingness to speak” was noted everywhere.
SPÖ City Party Leader Benjamin Plach stressed that now we have to see how we can “work well for the city”. For the president of the Innsbruck club, Lucas Krackl did not want to convey “any demand to the members through the media.” But one is still open to discussion. The same goes for the ÖVP. The club president, Christoph Appler, did not want to “anticipate” the talks.
It appears that the coalition is trying to meet again over Christmas. Nobody wanted to use the word “new election” at all. But there are two sticking points. On the one hand, the position of deputy mayor has to be filled in January and, on the other hand, it is also about what happens with traffic schedules. At the moment, they are back with Willi himself, but the mayor has a mega department anyway. It is very possible that the content will castling. Whenever you reach a common denominator in the discussions.
