The famous “Almond Blossoms” by Vincent van Gogh (1890) grow on the 30 meter long and eight meter high walls. His “Two Crabs” are set in motion, the brushstrokes spin in the air, the “fishing boats at sea” sway and the birds take off in the “wheat field with crows” to dance on the ears of wheat. Everything shines, everything shines in the exhibition “Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience” which opened yesterday at the Linz Cigar Factory (until 14 February).
35 projectors transform around 500 of the most important works of the painting innovator into light installations, in which visitors become participants in the wonderful world of Van Gogh. The expressiveness of the paintings and a never-intrusive sound mat, reminiscent of Antonio Vivaldi, then again Erik Satie, merge during the 40-minute installation to create an atmosphere that feels like a caress of the soul in the reality that Corona has made celibate. .
3D art
“Drawing is like planting seeds to allow paintings to grow,” shines on the walls like a Van Gogh quote. And indeed, line by line, the working method of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) is revealed in the form of digital and analog 3D animations (for example, using “The courtesan”). The illusion disappears as fast as it came. The journey continues towards Provence, sunflowers grow on the walls, lilies bloom before being replaced by twinkling stars, and visitors no longer have the carpeted floor of the tobacco factory under their feet, but the projected image is built there. . of the artist.
It is the last show from the tobacco factory before construction begins on the Bodner Group’s massive Quadrill project (a four-building complex including a 109-meter skyscraper) in 2021. The flexibility of the construction company made it possible to postpone the show. related to the crown in the first place. This is another reason why everyone seems relieved on this opening day. “There were weeks of hope and tremors about whether we could open,” says exhibition producer Oliver Forster. And Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ) is convinced that this exhibition will develop that magnetism “to inspire many people from Linz and Upper Austria”.
One of the strong points of the exhibition is that it is not only aimed at those who want to delve into the history of art. Rather, it enables an experience for the whole family: With reliably sanitized virtual reality goggles, guided by Van Gogh’s fictional voice, you can embark on a journey through the artist’s life. In a specially installed studio there is the possibility of imitating Van Gogh’s line. A visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will also be raffled for all visitors. The Tobacco Factory is the launch pad for an exciting journey.
