Innsbruck: Mayor Willi does not see a breakdown of the coalition

The green deputy mayor has fallen, but political work in the Tyrolean capital will continue. Innsbruck Mayor Georg Willi (Greens) does not see a coalition break in the election of his party colleague and Deputy Mayor Uschi Schwarzl, among others by the Greens coalition partners: ÖVP, SPÖ and Für Innsbruck (FI ). He will still be able to work for Innsbruck, new elections are not in the room, Willi said Friday in a statement to the APA.

“This morning (Friday, note) I invited my colleagues to a meeting, we will see that we can find an appointment for this soon,” said the mayor. Now it is important to take the pressure off first. “Then we will talk to each other about how we can continue to work for Innsbruck. The basis for this is our very ambitious and sustainable coalition agreement,” Willi said.

Unfortunately, the good work of the coalition of cities is always covered by arguments. “They are part of a coalition, but it is equally important that calm returns now,” Willi said. Now he wants to seize this crisis as an opportunity and sees the willingness to do so in his colleagues in the coalition.

After just a year in office, who had previously replaced Deputy Mayor Christine Oppitz-Plörer (FI), who had also been ousted, Schwarzl was recalled Thursday night on the local council. The trigger was different legal opinions on the regulation of a temporary meeting area.

New appointments must take place in January

In case of deselection, the law of the city of Innsbruck establishes that the departments fall under the jurisdiction of the mayor. The election of a new deputy mayor will take place at the next municipal council meeting in January. Every party of the municipal council that is entitled to at least one office in the city senate has the right to propose one of its members for the election of the municipal council.

After Schwarzl was removed from office, the Green Club immediately nominated her as a non-executive director. Willi then announced that he would nominate Schwarzl to the January city council for the environment, energy, mobility and culture department. (apa)
