Ahead of Thursday’s EU summit, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) expressed hope that there will soon be Corona vaccines in Europe. “The sooner we can start vaccinating in the EU, the better. Because every day a pandemic in Europe currently means thousands of deaths, serious economic damage and countless people who have to fear for their jobs,” Kurz said in a statement.

The theme of the two-day EU summit in Brussels is also an exchange on the current situation of the crown. He briefly thanked EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for the “successful European procurement process” of Covid vaccines. The Chancellor also congratulated the UK on the launch of the vaccines. “I hope that the European Medicines Agency will also approve the first vaccines quickly and without bureaucracy in accordance with all scientific standards,” Kurz said.

So far, the European Medicines Agency Ema has received two applications for approval of corona vaccines. The American company Moderna and the German company Biontech together with their US partner Pfizer have submitted applications and final data sets with the goal of Ema completing the approval process for its vaccination candidates.
