For WAC, the Europa League home match on matchday 6 of the group stage against Feyenoord Rotterdam (21 on the live ticker and on DAZN) offers a historic opportunity.
Even a draw against the traditional Dutch club would be enough to reserve the ticket for promotion to the 16th final, which would be equivalent to spending the winter in international business for the first time.
WAC coach Ferdinand Feldhofer wants to seize the opportunity: “We deserved this final, our seven points cannot be valued enough.”
“Each of us knows the possibilities we have, but we all also know what kind of hunk we are up against,” explained the Styrian before the sixth match of the group stage.
Feyenoord remain undefeated in the Eredivisie
Feyenoord have five points in the Europa League and are fourth in the Dutch championship after eleven rounds, four points behind leader Ajax Amsterdam.
In the league, coach Dick Advocaat’s team remains undefeated, but the record for the last four competition matches is three draws and one loss. “You can tell that the Feyenoord also has a very high load,” says Feldhofer.
At WAC, a certain weariness was also noted at 1: 4 in Innsbruck against WSG Tirol. “That’s the way it is, and we accept it. Of course I was upset with the result, but it was to be expected that something like this could happen,” says Feldhofer. That is why he did not make a detailed analysis of the appearance on Sunday. “We don’t have time for that right now anyway.”
Good memories of the match in Rotterdam
The focus is exclusively on Feyenoord. “In this match, as in the five previous Europa League matches, we are outsiders,” emphasized the WAC coach, whose team won 4-1 in the first game in Rotterdam.
At home, things did not go so well for Wolfsberg internationally: after their five games in the Europa League group stage on their own territory, WAC have two draws and three losses.
If the negative series ends and the first victory is achieved, this would also be a personal satisfaction for Feldhofer, who was viewed critically when he took office last winter. “Few believed me that I would survive the summer,” said the 41-year-old. The focus is not on your own well-being, but on that of the association. “A promotion would be a milestone, the greatest success for the club and for the players, and also for me as a coach.”
