A memorable day there.
December 8 was a special day in some countries. It is not a public holiday in the UK, but it may turn into a new V-Day (shot instead of victory). Because that day, a Sars-CoV-2 vaccination with the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine was performed for the first time at the University College Hospital in Coventry. Patient 1 was Margaret Keenan, 90 years old. The BBC showed video recordings of the unspectacular but significant vaccination process. Two moderators pathetically commented on the event: “This is a great moment. This, as you can see, is the first person in the UK to receive the vaccine. ” Soon after, 81-year-old William Shakespeare received an injection at the same hospital, which of course is a much better headline. Coventry is also very close to the birthplace of its famous namesake, Stratford-upon-Avon. Twitter joked: “If Margaret Keenan was patient 1A, was Shakespeare patient 2B or not 2B?”
At the same time, the German state of Saxony announced a tough shutdown until January 10. And although it was a public holiday in Catholic Austria, stores were open despite the pandemic. Many Austrians fulfilled their holiday obligation: they went shopping. A memorable day there.
