With a tremendous victory over the English record champions, RB Leipzig set the round of 16.
RB Leipzig secured a ticket to the Round of 16 in the Football Champions League on Tuesday night. The German Bundesliga side celebrated a 3-2 home win over Manchester United in the Group H coup and left the English in the table by three points. The group’s victory was not yet certain as Paris St. Germain’s parallel match against Istanbul Basaksehir was canceled after an incident of racism by the fourth official.
In Group F, Lazio Roma reached a 2-2 draw against Club Brugge to secure the second promotion card alongside group winner Borussia Dortmund. In the Germans’ 2-1 victory at Zenit St. Petersburg, Youssoufa Moukoko became the youngest player in CL history from the 58th minute at the age of 16 years and 18 days. The young man replaced Celestine Babayaro, who played in the Anderlecht suit in Bucharest in 1994 at the age of 16 years and 87 days.
In Group G, Turin Juventus secured first place with a 3-0 win over FC Barcelona, but had a better finish for themselves after the 0-2 first leg. The main responsible for this was the superstar Cristiano Ronaldo with a double (13th, 52nd) and his goals CL 133 and 134. The third goal went to the account of Weston McKennie (20th).
The Leipzig tremors
The Leipziger kicked off like a shot, Angelino scored after Marcel Sabitzer’s ideal preparatory work at 1:49 minutes and thus scored Leipzig’s fastest goal in the ‘premier class’. The ÖFB team player also put his feet into the match for the second goal, taking out Angelino, whose center was caught by former Salzburg Amadou Haidara (13th) on a volley. Willi Orban’s third goal (29th) was not recognized for offside.
In the 69th minute, “Joker” Justin Kluivert allegedly made everything clear. In the final phase, however, the locals trembled again, as Bruno Fernandes (80th / penalty) and Paul Pogba (82nd) scored for the English. However, the compensation no longer decreased. Therefore, the revenge for the bankruptcy 0: 5 in Manchester was a success.
In the end, this result was certainly received positively by UEFA, as the result of Paris against Istanbul no longer has any effect on the table. The duel was called off after less than a quarter of an hour. The Turks refused to play after assistant coach Pierro Webo was sacked by referee Ovidiu Hategan. The reason was not the red card, but an incident of racism. The fourth official, Sebastián Coltescu, had clearly audibly referred to the Cameroonian as “black” during the campaign.
Webo was as upset as player Demba Ba, who faced the referee. After several minutes of discussion, both teams left the field. For a short time there was speculation that the game could continue, but in the end nothing came out. Apparently the Turks refused to return to the field.
