It is not only the numerous crown cases that are causing a stir among the ÖSV eagles ahead of the ski flying world championships. After the resignation of Kotrainer Robert Treitinger, the best athletes are now becoming the top of the association.

Innsbruck. On Wednesday, and therefore only one day before the World Ski Flight Championships in Planica, the ÖSV line-up decides to go hunting in Slovenia. After a stubborn crown group was formed among Austrian ski jumpers, front men Stefan Kraft, Michael Hayböck, Gregor Schlierenzauer and Philipp Aschenwald gave negative PCR tests on Monday and were able to fly with them.

Head coach Andreas Widhölzl, who was also infected, wants to make a last-minute decision before Thursday’s qualifying (individual on Friday and Saturday, team competition on Sunday) on who is best equipped for the giant bakery in Planica. Daniel Huber’s jump in top form is not a problem for the World Cup. After finishing second on Saturday in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, he tested positive before Sunday’s competition.

In addition to the increased number of crown cases, an expulsion from the ÖSV-Adler coaching team is also causing waves. Kotrainer Robert Treitinger was fired last week for “breach of Covid-19 protection measures.” The “Tiroler Tageszeitung” reports that after his return from the first match of the World Cup in Wisla, Poland, Treitinger removed his mask in ÖSV’s office as his counterpart. The ÖSV stated that there had been a violation of internal corona rules, but did not give any details and emphasized that Treitinger, who later tested positive, should not be blamed for the corona cases in the team.

Now the jumpers of the World Cup are pronounced in a joint petition for the whereabouts of the Tyrolean coach. Stefan Kraft and Co. ask the ÖSV management to “review this decision and, if possible, reconsider it.” Treitinger is an essential part of the team, it says in the letter. The new general secretary of the ÖSV, Christian Scherer, declared, however, that the termination would remain in effect. (Red.)
