Alpine ski
The first sprint race of the women’s alpine ski season scheduled for Saturday in St. Moritz has been canceled. Fresh 80-centimeter snow at 6:00 am and strong wind frustrated the jury and organizers. The hope for women drivers now is a change in the weather.
On Sunday (11.30am, live on ORF1 and live) there is another race in this discipline on the program, but the weather forecast is not very promising. In St. Moritz, the express departure, scheduled with a delay due to the coronavirus, should take place this season. However, FIS race director Peter Gerdol ruled out a race on Monday, when it should be much better.
On Sunday everything will be done to make a race possible: “We have a plan, everyone is working very hard and trying it. We check the latest weather forecast again. Unfortunately Monday doesn’t work, the only possibility is the weekend, ”said Gerdol, who hopes the races will be postponed. A total of seven Super-Gs are scheduled for this winter.
ÖSV-Lager awaits Sunday’s races
As usual, the ÖSV camp had prepared for Saturday’s race at the Engadin ski resort, despite the harsh forecast. “We are prepared for a race, if you can get it anywhere, it will be here in St. Moritz. We were hoping for a race, ”said women’s race director Christian Mitter. He described at least the implementation of a Super-G at St. Moritz as “incredibly important” in order to advance in the fast disciplines. “We have trained well and we hope the weather allows it.”
Like all runners, Nicole Schmidhofer has to be patient a little longer. “You gave it your all, let’s hope for the best that something happens on Sunday,” said the Styrian. He had prepared himself in the same way as always, but he set the alarm later, because he was not expecting an early morning visitor. Now it became a day for a hearty breakfast and then a dry workout.
