A strange world of puppets, clay heads and abstractions

Exceptional artist Lieselott Beschorner takes you into a cosmos of idiosyncratic grotesque figures, nudes and abstractions at the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich. For almost eight decades, the Viennese artist, now 93 years old, has represented a diverse and, in the best sense of the word, strange world, which extends into its living space, a residential building on the outskirts of Vienna, like a total work of art. In the midst of this cosmos, she creates works with ever-new materials and artistic techniques: wool dolls, clay heads or Corona’s latest frantic drawings are just excerpts from the artist’s work, which transforms everything into art that reaches her hands. . The Kunsthalle Krems presents the photographic and film works of Fiona Tan. The Amsterdam-based artist has held a central position in contemporary art since the 1990s and is considered one of the main protagonists of art based on research, documentation and archive work. In his works he alternates between authenticity and visual staging, slowly blurring the boundaries between documentation and fiction. In a series of photos produced especially for Krems, Tan refers to the art gallery’s proximity to Stein Prison and shows historical photos of people arrested. Florian Steininger, artistic director of the Kunsthalle Krems, on the exhibition: “I am very happy to be able to open the new exhibition at Kunsthalle Krems to visitors with the loosening of the closure.
