On Saturday there was a fatal alpine accident in Schwarzenstein (Leoben). A 45-year-old woman from Mödling fell 100 meters deep.
The accident happened on Saturday afternoon in Schwarzenstein in Eisenerz. A 45-year-old mountaineer from the Mödling district slipped on the descent and fell about 100 meters onto a rock edge. The woman suffered fatal injuries.
At around 9:15 am, Lower Austria and her 54-year-old companion from the Sankt Pölten-Land district (Lower Austria) set out on a mountain tour. The two women started on the Eisenerzer Ramsau and climbed to the top of the Wildfeld. They then crossed the Speikkogel to the top of the Stadelstein.
The companion informed the emergency services.
At the end of the trail, the two experienced mountaineers climbed the top of the Schwarzenstein on an exposed ridge. While descending the same ridge, the 45-year-old slipped and fell off a cliff there. The companion, who was walking a few meters behind the 45-year-old woman, noticed the fall and immediately notified the emergency services.
The Christophorus 17 rescue helicopter carried the crew to the crash site using a rope. The ER doctor could only determine the death of the woman who had crashed. The 54-year-old friend of the victim was taken to the valley by the rescue helicopter. Due to the onset of darkness and fog, the deceased was rescued by the BMI helicopter on the morning of November 29, 2020.
