There was nothing to get for Austrian women in France

The Austrian team lost the first of two games these days in qualifying for the European Championship on Friday night. In Guingamp, Irene Fuhrmann’s team, who had to do without captain Schnaderbeck (Arsenal), Schiechtl (Bremen) and Plattner (Potsdam), suffered a 3-0 defeat.

It was the first in the current competition. At halftime, the French had already led 2-0. Somewhat annoying: the Austrians received two of the three shots from set pieces. A fourth goal by the hosts in the last minute was denied for an alleged offside position.

“It was the tough game we expected, we basically did well. But the first goal we conceded in the eleventh minute hurt,” said Irene Fuhrmann.

Despite the defeat, the ÖFB team has a good chance of being one of the first three runners-up in the group to land a fixed ticket to EM 2022 in England. The red-and-white women in Group G currently have 16 points and are therefore in second place, which is already fixed with four points ahead of Serbia.

On Tuesday there will also be a final duel with the Serbs in Altach (6.30 pm, ORF Sport + live). With a victory you can reach direct qualification, a place in the play-off is already safe.
