Therefore, rehearsals and games will continue as originally planned. The premieres scheduled for December will be held, but not in front of a live audience, but broadcast on ORF.

It begins with the ballet evening “Mahler, live”. The director of the State Ballet, Martin Schläpfer, will record the debut on December 4 and will broadcast it on Arte Concert that same night. “Mahler, Live” remains available there for 90 days. The ORF will air the production on December 8 (ORF 2, 9:05 am).

Jules Massenet’s “Werther” will follow on December 10 with the home debut of tenor Piotr Beczala (broadcast: January 10, ORF III, 8.15pm). Margarethe Wallmann’s 1958 production “Tosca” is polished by Anna Netrebko’s Viennese paper debut (December 13: 7 pm live on Ö1, 8:15 pm on ORF III).

Quick tests for the audience

Hans Werner Henze’s “The Sea Betrayed” (Roscic’s first real new production) will air on play.wiener-staatsoper.at on December 14th. Ö1 will be broadcast on December 15 (7.30pm). Why only on ORF radio? ORF Director General Alexander Wrabetz responded that television productions were selected that could be speculated on with the enthusiasm of the audience. The finale is the musical replay of Otto Schenk’s production of “Der Rosenkavalier” on December 27 (ORF III, 8:15 pm).

Roscic does not want to anticipate the government’s plans for December 6, the probable but unlikely end of the blockade. However, he suggests quick quizzes for the audience and recommends that each theater be evaluated individually for its safety concepts. (P)
