Austria Wien is in the quarter-finals of the ÖFB Cup. The favorites celebrated a 5-3 home win against Hartberg. Three weeks ago Austria had lost 1: 2 to the Styrians in the league.
Goals for the hosts were scored by captain Alexander Grünwald (12th), Stephan Zwierschitz (17th), Benedikt Pichler (41st), Manprit Sarkaria (49th) and Dominik Fitz (65th). Goals from the Styrians got Dario Tadic (57th), former Austrian Sascha Horvath (81st) and Seifedin Chabbi (84th / Foulelfer), who hit the crossbar with another penalty in the 91st minute. It was Austria’s first competitive success. after the last four league games without a win (two draws).
The Stöger-Elf had their first big chance shortly after kick-off, but Aleksandar Jukic chased Pichler’s pass from the penalty area into the clouds (2nd). Ten minutes later, nice action and an assist from Jukic led to a well-deserved 1-0 through Grünwald. Hartberg’s defense also looked bad at 2-0, which meant the criminally sloppy Zwierschitz succeeded after his shot, initially blocked by goalkeeper Rene Swete.
Hartberg’s best chance before half-time was missed by Tadic, who missed because of goalkeeper Patrick Pentz (36th). Shortly before, the Styrian striker was held in the area by Grünwald and fell, but referee Stefan Ebner’s whistle remained silent (34th). The 3-0 was reminiscent of the second goal, because Pichler also knew how to dust off after his own shot because Hartberg’s defense fell asleep again.
Even after the switch, Austria stayed on the trigger: after Chip von Fitz, Sarkaria threw the ball at the Kreuzeck in a remarkable way. A positional error allowed Tadic to score the first guest goal before Fitz scored 5-1 after Sarkaria’s groundwork. Hartberg didn’t give up despite this clear residue and came across a perfect Horvath movie and a Chabbi transformed Foulelfer to two hits in the finale. Another penalty, wrongly imposed by referee Ebner, Chabbi was then knocked out in injury time.
