In Berlin, a car drove to the door of the Federal Chancellery. Photos and a video online show a vehicle with a hood on the access door. An eyewitness confirmed the incident to SPIEGEL. Consequently, a wheelchair user controlled the car, he was in police custody. The Reuters news agency also confirmed the incident with testimony.
The Berlin police confirmed to SPIEGEL that a “traffic accident” had occurred at the Chancellery. The background is unclear. Nothing is known of the injured. The driver was taken into custody, police wrote on Twitter.
On the left side of the car you can read “Damn children and old-assassins”. On the passenger side it says “Stop globalization policy.”
The Foreign Ministry has not yet been able to comment on the request. The incident occurred during the current session of the federal cabinet. It usually meets on Wednesday mornings at the Chancellery.
The same car apparently drove to the gate years ago: In 2014, a 48-year-old man drove a very similar-looking car against the gate of the Chancellery. Also back then the car had slogans. The phrase, on the one hand, was directed against climate change: “The end of climate change that kills people.” On the other side was a declaration of love: “Nicole, I love you.”
No one was injured at the time. According to the police, the car approached the fence very slowly. It is not yet known if the vehicle was being driven by the same driver at the time.
