The Neos promised long before the elections, but broke a lot

Vienna (OTS) “The new Vienna People’s Party is ready for constructive cooperation, but it will not throw its principles overboard, as the Neos did. The new city government is not, as it seems, the much promoted red-pink progress coalition, but a red-left continuity coalition, “emphasized state manager and city councilor Bernadette Arnoldner at today’s constitutive meeting of the municipal parliament and state.

In his speech, Arnoldner congratulates both Mayor Ludwig and Deputy Mayor Wiederkehr. The coalition negotiations ended quickly, not surprising, given that the Neos volunteered daily during the election campaign. “The Neos promised a lot in the electoral campaign, but they did not fulfill many of their promises. In the government agreement, evaluations and working groups are mentioned more than 50 times and there are no specific objectives, ”said the councilor.

The integration policy in Vienna is one of the most pressing problems. Here the SPÖ failed for years and denied problems. The new Vienna People’s Party continues to call for additional courses in German and values, as well as a reform of the minimum income. The Neos also made many promises on the issue of security before the elections. “Where are the solutions for the Grätzl security hotspots, security concepts and police that were widely announced by the Neos during the election campaign?”

The coalition pact does not foresee great success in the education sector, although the Neos wanted to make Vienna the capital of education during the election campaign. The new People’s Party calls for quality controls for Islamic classes and for schools to work together with the Vienna police to prevent and avoid violence. The city must also do more in the areas of transparency and control. “If it had been for the Neos two years ago, Christoph Wiederkehr would have had to go to a hearing for his new office,” Arnoldner said. The audit office of the city needs more skills audit, Vienna needs a transparent work agency for administrative work in the city, more transparency around subsidies and comprehensive transparency law.

“We continue to fight for a determined center-right policy with decency and we are not afraid to criticize the city government if we ignore this policy. We will work hard together, but in a constructive and fair way, ”concluded Arnoldner.
