Police had dissolved a large refugee camp under a motorway access road in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis last week. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin called the images of the current evacuation from the camp “shocking.” He requested a report from the prefect of police. As soon as it is available, it will decide on further steps, Darmanin wrote on Twitter.
The prefecture of police and the prefecture of the Île-de-France region declared in a joint statement that the construction of unauthorized refugee camps was “unacceptable”. The police intervened to end the “illegal occupation of public space”.
