Milan remain at the top of the table after matchday eight: the still undefeated Rossoneri decided the top match on Sunday night at Napoli 3-1 thanks to 2 goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

After losing 3-0 in the Europa League to Lille and 2-2 at home in the championship to Hellas Verona, Milan managed to get back on the winning track with a victory in Naples.
The Milanese celebrated their last away win at Napoli 10 years ago. Back then, the Rossoneri won the championship at the end of the season. Even now, after 8 match days, Ibrahimovic and company are in 1st place.
With the victory in the afternoon game, Milan regained the championship lead from Sassuolo. Emilia-Romagna’s surprise team had already celebrated a 2-0 win at Hellas Verona in the afternoon (all results for Sunday afternoon can be found here).
Ibrahimovic triumphs
The main person responsible for the triumph of Milan was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who put together a double. In the 20th minute, the Swede put the guests ahead with a powerful header from about 13 meters behind Theo Hernández’s center. After that, Napoli changed gears and had several chances. Due to a lack of opportunities for Napoli, they held on at halftime with a narrow Milan lead.
In the 54th minute, Ibrahimovic rose to 2-0 after a strong counterattack and cross from Ante Rebic. This time the Swede struck with his knee. Ibra, who now leads the Serie A scorers list with 10 goals, retired prematurely at 79 with an undefined thigh injury.

Dries Mertens finally scored the next goal for Napoli in the 63rd minute. However, just 2 minutes later, Tiemoue Bakayoko flew off the field with a yellow-red. Despite being outnumbered, the home team still had one chance or another. Instead of calling, Milans Jens Petter Hauge made the final decision in injury time (95th).
Napoli lost ground with their third defeat of the season in the title race and is now sixth, six points behind leader Milan.
The defending champion Juventus had already scored 3 points on Saturday (see their own report) and is 4 points behind Milan in fourth place.
