On Sunday, the eighth round of the duel between SV Ried and Rapid Vienna was scheduled. There were seven goals in a crazy game and in the end a close victory at home. In the end, Innviertel’s team won 4: 3 (2: 1) and Hütteldorfer suffered their first defeat in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season. The greenish-whites miss the jump to the top of the table.
Both teams started the game very intensely and with great enthusiasm. After a few minutes of urgency from the Hütteldorfer, the hosts had the first two good chances. In the seventh minute, Rapid winger Ulmann was about to score the first goal of the game with a rescue operation. His rescue attempt was from the outside post of his own goal towards the gate. From the next corner Reiner hit a dangerous header. The ball was just before the guests’ goal. In the 14th minute, a gift provided the opening goal for Hütteldorfer. Barak sends Schick on a trip with a flank change. Takougnadi lets his flank slide down a ventilation hole. The ball lands on the Knasmüllner completely separated. He gratefully accepts the gift and gets a 1-0 lead. Afterwards, the game continued to be very intense and highly entertaining.
Mandatory goal closures were, however, much rarer. Fountas put an exclamation point in the 22nd minute. About 180 seconds later, a corner kick marked the second goal of the game. Nutz places a corner kick in the short corner. The ball goes through “friend and foe” and unhappily hits the stunned Grahovac on the head and from there to his own goal for a 1-1 draw. An intermediate result that was definitely not undeserved. The people of Innviertel were still very present and acted with great determination. In the 27th minute, the U21 player Grüll put the ball, after a beautiful individual performance, into the outside net. Shortly after, a header from Reiner caused a stir around the guest goal (32nd). 180 seconds later there were three more difficult situations in Rapid’s penalty area. With a bit of luck, Hütteldorfer was able to clear the ball. In this phase the guests had notorious problems with the aggressive and effective way of playing the Innviertel team. Only on rare occasions was Rapid able to constructively break free in the final phase of the first half. In a counterattack to Demir, the central defender Reiner was able to clarify in dire need (36º). Four minutes later, the hosts turned the game around. After a mistake by Grahovac in the set-up, Grüll is sent to the left crossing. The player of the U21 team is not attacked with force and therefore can carry the ball to the center. There Gschweidl hits the nail on the head and pushes the ball for a 2-1 break. A result that was good for the performance shown.
After switching sides, the guests provided the first two exclamation points. Knasmüllner narrowly missed a volley in the 50th minute. 60 seconds later, the midfielder gratefully accepted a gift. Ried goalkeeper Sahin-Radlinger fired Ulmann’s long shot in front of Knasmüllner’s legs. He had little trouble sinking the ball for a 2-2 draw. Then the characteristics of the game changed. SV Ried was now much more passive and was no longer as present in duels. The Innviertlers were now more passive, too. A circumstance that in the 65th minute – from the point of view of the hosts – should “take revenge”. After a throw-in, Takougnadi frivolously spoiled the ball. Follow a quick counterattack through Fountas. Reiner wants to clear his center and unfortunately extends the ball towards his own goal (65). 120 seconds later, Hütteldorfer found the first match ball. Fountas failed alone in front of Ried Sahin-Radlinger’s goalkeeper. In a crazy game, SV Ried managed to equalize against the course of the game.
A free-throw flank from Nutz extends Reifeltshammer to Reiner. Push the ball into the net from a short distance at 3: 3 (71). It was the Innviertel team’s first shot on goal after the break. The game became more intense and more emotional again. Good offensive actions were not lacking. In the 76th minute, the guests would have again taken the lead. After a strong header from Kara, Ried goalkeeper Sahin-Radlinger managed to turn the crossbar with a brilliant ball. On the other side, a central head butt from Reiner caused another “increase in resting heart rate” (86º). A few seconds later, substitute Wiessmeier and Ziegl could have made the decision in favor of the hosts, probably earlier! The Innviertel team won the fourth goal a few seconds later. Substitute Bajic prevails on the right side with a remarkable individual performance. When he passes, Grüll is just ahead of Hofmann on the ball, pushing the game device towards the net to make it 4: 3.
In the end, SV Ried celebrated a happy, but by no means undeserved, home win. The Innviertel people were at least at eye level for at least 60 minutes and gave Hütteldorfer a great and exciting fight. The Austrian Highs also used more offensively than “just punctures”. On the other hand, Hütteldorfer came back twice and led at the Josko Arena. The green-white could not turn this advantage into a points victory.
At the table, Rapid Wien missed the jump to the top of the table and slid back to third place. On the other hand, SV Ried improved to ninth position.
