The slalom season begins with a known winner: Petra Vlhova wins ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin.
Ball defender Petra Vlhova won the first slalom of the 2020/21 Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup season on Saturday. In her 15th World Cup win in the first of two goal runs in Levi, Finland, the Slovakian won 0.18 seconds ahead of American Mikaela Shiffrin and 0.57 seconds ahead of Vorarlberg’s Katharina Liensberger . The ÖSV women continued the podium series at the Arctic Circle.
The slalom drivers from Austria came out strong. With Katharina Truppe in seventh place, Chiara Mair in eight and Katharina Huber in ten, a quartet landed in the top ten. Another women’s slalom is scheduled at Levi on Sunday (10.15am and 1.15pm).
The Swedes did not start. After a coach tested positive for Covid-19, the entire team was quarantined by Finnish authorities, despite the riders having negative tests.
