Due to the dramatic situation of the crown in the hospitals of Styria, they are sounding the alarm. The victim of an accident has already had to be transferred to another hospital.

The situation of the crown in Austria remains dramatic despite the blockades. Now Styrian hospitals are sounding the alarm too. Compared to ORF Styria, the situation is “dramatic”. In Graz with the Merciful Brothers, only two of the eleven intensive care beds are free. “We have already closed two stations to request personnel for Covid stations. The capacity limit will be reached if this continues. We hope we can get by without triage. In my opinion, there is also the possibility for this, but it will be very critical,” said the director doctor, Geza Gemes.

The situation is equally tense in the rest of the country. “It is really alarming. Intensive care units are already full in eastern Styria and Burgenland. There was, for example, a serious traffic accident in which a patient needed intensive medical attention and a distant hospital had to be called,” said the spokesman for the Styrian Hospital Association (KAGes) Reinhard Marczik.

And it also appeals to the population. “The situation is really serious. Our appeal goes out to people to finally take note of this and adjust their behavior accordingly, ”says Marczik, who has the impression that some in Austria have not yet recognized the seriousness of the situation.

It is particularly important to avoid so-called triage. This is the scenario in which bed capacity is so depleted that clinicians must decide who will be treated and who will not.
