Starting shot for the new ski jumping World Cup season! On Friday in Wisla, Poland, qualifying for the first competition took place.

From an Austrian point of view, Michael Hayböck points positively. The Austrian from Alta, who struggled with his form last winter, is the fourth best ÖSV eagle and, after jumping 127m, is behind qualifying winners Kamil Stoch (POL / 132m), Yukiya Sato (JPN) and Markus Eisenbichler (GER) a.

Daniel Huber in ninth and Jan Hörl and Philipp Aschenwald in eleventh and twelfth can also be satisfied.

World Cup holder Stefan Kraft, who had back problems during preparation, has to settle for 22nd place after being ahead of the game in practice. Gregor Schlierenzauer also qualified 29th.

In Wisla, a team competition is scheduled on Saturday, followed by the first individual competition of the season on Sunday.

Quartet arranged for team jumping

For the team competition, ÖSV head coach Andreas Widhölzl nominated the following jumpers immediately after qualifying: Hayböck, Aschenwald, Huber and Kraft.

“It was a very positive start, I think we are competitive,” said Widhölzl. “It’s good for athletes, they don’t need to do anything special, what they are capable of, they can jump to the fore.”

Hayböck is very satisfied after qualifying. “It was a very good fit, the jumps were very stable. I took what I worked on in the summer.”

Kraft, who received the highest mark in the first training jump, does not manage the most important round of the day as expected. “The first jump was very good. Then there was a bit of tension, it was something for the first time. It was a risky jump and the race was short. But basically I am very satisfied,” says the 27-year-old. On Saturday he expects the Poles to be the strongest team. “You are hard to beat here. But we don’t need to hide and we will jump aggressively.”
