David Ellensohn remains club president
Vienna (OTS) – After almost 20 years of constituting itself as an opposition party and 10 years of constituting it as a ruling party, the time has come for the Greens in Vienna to write a new chapter. To this end, the Green Club members in the city council have today chosen key leadership roles: Judith Pühringer and Peter Kraus were elected as the new non-executive directors with a clear majority. David Ellensohn was clearly confirmed in his role as club president.
Peter Kraus was previously councilor for urban development, housing, energy and climate protection, and is number 2 on the Green Vienna list. Labor market expert Judith Pühringer is number 3 on the Greens list as a lateral entrant. David Ellensohn has extensive experience in both the opposition and the government and has good connections in the new city government.
Peter Kraus: “In the coming years we will not only have to face a health crisis, but also a labor and economic crisis, as well as a climate crisis. Each government has to show how it answers these big questions about the future; this is how we will measure and challenge the new SPÖ-Neos coalition in Vienna. At the moment only headlines are known, it will depend on the facts. I am looking forward to this new role in a new team of the future ”.
Judith Pühringer: “It is a great honor and pleasure to be part of this team, this club, this new spirit, which tries to propose sustainable and innovative solutions and measures for the multiple crises that we have to overcome together. It is precisely against these solutions that we will measure and challenge the new government of the city of Vienna ”.
David Ellensohn: “The Green Town Hall Club will work as a team. It is a center for innovation and cooperation with districts, district leaders, the federal Greens, and civil society. I am looking forward to the new management team and the good cooperation ”.
Birgit Hebein takes note of the political decisions made by the majority of the Green Local Council Club not to have elected her club president. “We are not doing anyone a favor if we worry now. Our voters have expressed their confidence in us and rightly expect us to work for the future of the city, especially in light of the dramatic crown and climate crisis. Red Pink doesn’t have a grace period, you can count on strong greens. “
