Anyone who works but wants to care for underage students at home does not currently have any special attention time. In theory, schools would be open.
In the lockdown that takes effect on Tuesday, the government recommends that all students pursue distance education within their own four walls. But parents who have a job and are supposed to take care of their children at home are not initially allowed special care time. Employer representatives point out to the APA that this is not legally possible, because in theory local schools are still open.
“We have thousands of children and young people in Austria who are infected and do not know because they have no symptoms,” said Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who defended the school measures on Sunday. “It is a painful step, of course it is a challenge for parents and students,” Kurz said of distance learning. For those who need it, the school is still open and takes care of the children.
Not legally possible
From a legal point of view, special child care would only be possible if schools really closed their doors completely. So employers would also be compensated for the cost of attention time. However, the regulation looks like this: kindergartens remain open, compulsory schools create the possibility of caring for children whose parents have to go to work or need support for learning.
The new lockdown regulation comes into effect on November 17, 2020 and applies until December 6, 2020 inclusive. According to the relevant provisions of the COVID-19 Measures Act, exit restrictions initially apply until November 26, 2020 inclusive and must be reinstated after 10 days. by the main committee of the National Council. The COVID-19 Emergency Measures Ordinance replaces the previously applicable COVID-19 Protective Measures Ordinance.
