A second lockdown will take effect in Austria on Tuesday. Meetings with several close caregivers should now be possible.
On Saturday, the federal government announced a second blockade for Austria. Sebastian Kurz emphasized: “Please don’t know anyone!” You should only keep in touch with those with whom you live in the same household. Family gatherings are absolutely prohibited. People who live alone can define a contact person for the blockade, he said at the press conference.
On Sunday, however, the Health Ministry specified requirements for meetings outside the home. There is still a call to not meet anyone, but contacts with several close people should be possible, but not at the same time.
Who is one of the caregivers?
It is still important to reduce social contacts. However, meetings can take place with close family members or important caregivers, as the Health Ministry said on Sunday.
In the corresponding ordinance of the Ministry of Health, permitted private meetings are defined as contact with “individual close relatives” or with “individual important reference persons who are generally contacted several times a week”. Contact with a partner who does not live in the same household is also allowed.
Family celebrations are prohibited
According to the Ministry of Health, the closest relatives include parents, children (adults) and siblings. For someone who no longer has parents or siblings, but is always in close contact with their grandmother (not really a close relative), this can continue to do so. However, family celebrations are prohibited. Who is one of the “important caregivers” must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. At the same time, he asks for restraint: “Contact with other people should be restricted as much as possible.”
Additionally, curfews apply 24 hours a day. From Tuesday you can only leave home for very specific reasons: whether for professional reasons, to avoid immediate danger to life, limbs and property, to do the shopping, to help other people or to exercise outdoor.
