After Elise Mertens won a very close match against Vera Zvonareva in the round of 16, the Belgian had to work very hard in the semi-finals of the WTA event in Linz. Mertens faced Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova in this one and had to give up the first set with 2: 6. After the Belgian drew a clear 6: 1, she got very tight on the decision set. In the final phase of the match, the tournament number two showed the best value and finally moved 7: 5 in the third round to the final.
Sabalenka in the eighth title of his career
In this, the Belgian will now face tournament favorite Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus. Sabalenka had performed extremely strong in the tournament so far and literally entered the semi-finals. In this, however, the Belarusian had to fight properly for the first time, against the Czech Barbora Krjcikova, the world number eleven had to move on to the decision-making round after winning the first set. The final is scheduled for tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. For Aryna Sabalenka it is the eighth title of her career, for Mertens it would be the sixth victory in her young career.
